Letter from a Supporter, This is the Stuff El Pasoans are MADE of

Note: What follows is a letter that I received from a supporter. I have left his name off as I do not want to subject him to the vindictiveness of the other side. The letter is beautifully written and it contains pearls of wisdom. I will frame this letter and hang it in my office as a reminder of the good, brave and generous people out there who were willing to take a stand for this community and do the right thing by their own families and by people they have never met. I have a campaign volunteer who is married, taking 17 hours at UTEP and has five children. She and her family have been banging in signs and pounding the pavement for me for days. Then there is Clint Huffman (who has written publicly here) who has done the herculean task of walking neighborhhoods and parking lots all over the eastside. There is the tireless work of Mr. Valenzuela and Mr. Hernandez, Mr. Artalejo, Mr. Medina and lawyer, Stuart Leeds, his mother and father Sonia and Malkiel Leeds, James (Jim) Terrell, James (Jim) Adelstein, and lawyers Sam Snoddy, Mickey Milligan, Mike (Miguelito) Pariente, James Lucas, Felipe Millan, Gary Hill, and Roger Montoya. Then there are Major Mark Bittakis, Lorenza, Arlene, Hortencia and her daughter, Irma and Rudy, UTEP students, EPISD and SISD teachers, the Hollebeke family and retired deputy police chief George DeAngelis, and many others who have helped me. Then there are those whose names are on my contributor list. Not least, there is my dear mother, Dorothy McGill who paid to educate me and made me the lawyer that I am and who is my volunteer coordinator (566-0229) and my biggest contributor. There are my intelligent, strong and beautiful sisters who are all accomplished lawyers, Jennifer, Deborah and Elizabeth and my brother who is a dedicated intra-city teacher, Raymond (Papo) who have pounded the doors for me and given to me. Then there are the many whose names I do not mention whom I have met at their doors and on the street who are passing my message around. This campaign has brought me in touch with the most incredible people. These are the people of El Paso and those who care about El Paso.

Teresa Caballero
Democratic District Attorney Candidate
300 East Main Street, Suite 1136
El Paso TX 79901

Dear Teresa,

Enclosed you will find a check as my contribution to your campaign. Although the amount is not huge, please know that it comes from the heart, nevertheless.

At the same time I want you to know that you are the only candidate that I am supporting in your race. At times people have a tendency to contribute the same amount to all the candidates in order to cover their bets, this way when whoever wins that person can say "I supported you". This is not the case with me...

Additionally, I want to offer my support on the day of election, March 4th to pass out campaign materials at the…It is my precinct and I would be honored to cover it for you the majority of the day. From 6:30 am to 7:00pm. But I will break for breakfast and then again for lunch.

Finally, I must ask a favor of you: at night when you are laying there in your bed trying to take in the day’s events…don’t forget why you ran for office. Remember those who were with you and those who threw $50.00 your way just to cover their bases but then asked you not to say they were with you. But most of all…remember the promises you made to yourself.

And in the unlikely event that for some reason you do not win…know that it was my pleasure-but more importantly-my privilege-to stand with you and that I was honored to give you not only a contribution but more importantly-my vote.

Sincerely,

Un Abrazo!

Ditto, TC. This blog is where "amazing" lives.

The good thing is TC is going to win. I've been walking precincts with her and I know what people are saying. We actually get stopped by people NOT on our list to put up signs at their homes. People get all excited when she, the candidate herself, comes to their door. They call the whole family to the door. She just now today spoke at a Senior Citizen's Center in Spanish and they were applauding at the end and passing out her written material themselves. (Has anyone ever heard Esparza speak Spanish? Can he?) We had to go back to the car and get more campaign literature for them. And tonight she will be on the Barbara Perez Radio Show (1650 AM) from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Tune in.

FROM SIMPLE TRUTHS

QUESTION: What does “courage” have to do with being a person of good character...with someone who stays true to their principles and their values?

ANSWER: EVERYTHING!

You see, being values-driven means two things:

Doing what’s right – following our conscience; refusing to compromise our principles, despite pressures and temptations to the contrary, and
Taking a stand against what’s wrong – speaking out, whenever we see others do things that are incorrect or inappropriate.
Unquestionably, both of those require guts and fortitude...they require courage.

Courage is...

Following your conscience instead of “following the crowd”.
Refusing to take part in hurtful or disrespectful behaviors.
Sacrificing personal gain for the benefit of others.
Speaking your mind even though others don’t agree.
Taking complete responsibility for your actions...and your mistakes.
Following the rules – and insisting that others do the same.
Challenging the status quo in search of better ways.
Doing what you know is right- regardless of the risks and potential consequences.
I’d like to share the “Cadet Prayer” that is repeated during chapel services at the U.S. Military Academy:

Make us to choose the harder right instead of the easier wrong, and never to be content with a half truth when the whole truth can be won. Endow us with the courage that is born of loyalty to all that is noble and worthy, that scorns to compromise with vice and injustice and knows no fear when truth and right are in jeopardy.

That is truly the essence of courage.

Theresa will undoubtedly win in a fair and non-fraudulent election. The government is riddled with corrupt individuals, though. They have a criminal mindset and have the capability of manipulating the Diebold/Premier Election Solution machines used in the election? Many of us already know that the presidential election is fixed and the presidential winner will be Hillary.

It's stated that Joseph Stalin once said, "Those who cast the Votes, they decide nothing. Those who count the votes, they decide everything."

This election needs a paper trail and a notarized affidavit will help to ensure that voters will have a counted vote and not be disenfranchised. Open elections will help as well.

If anyone is concerned about disenfranchisement, please go to blackboxvoting.org and checkout the possibilities of how an election can be manipulated.

I am confident still, even as I watch organization after organization go out on a limb by endorsing incumbents, that you can pull this off, TC. Then in years to come, those endorsements will belong to you because of the good work you'll do. Keep the faith.

I have to ask this. Why is everyone in Esparza's beautiful TV ads appearing to be on the verge of tears?

Have any of you seen the KVIA story on Jaime Esparza and the Alejandra Flores case? There are two eye witness affidavits that say that it is likely that Renteria, if he was the killer at all, did not act alone. Jaime Esparza intentionally kept this evidence from the jurors as well as defense attorneys. This little girls family will now have to endure the pain of re-trial because of Jaime Esparzas disconest and unethical conduct in this case.
