Scott Ferguson and Esparza's "Friends"

Update on the update. Esparza has many of his attorney/employees working the polls. My question is, why aren't they at work? How are they getting paid? The other problem is that Esparza has hired some 2-faced attorneys to work for him and he should find out what they say about him behind his back as they hold his signs at the polls.

Assistant DA Scott Ferguson has been on Esparza's payroll for quite a few years. Stuart and I have been guests at his home. Not only do we socialize, but Scott refers to Esparza in the lowest, meanest of terms. Scott is aware of who and what he works for. Today I went to the polling station at the El Paso Tennis Club, and who was there holding an Esparza sign? None other than Scott Ferguson in the middle of a work day. To say I was disgusted does not do justice to how I felt. After I was finished telling Scott to his face what I thought of him, he told me, "I have no choice." I asked him, who in their right mind gave him a law license. How does someone with such a weak mind hold so many people's fates in his cowardly hands? Esparza should know what Scott says about him behind his back, and that he has "no choice."

Am I angry and hurt?--you bet. When I see my volunteers, who range from attorneys to students to hair dressers out taking a stand for me and taking a hit in their pockets working for free I have no respect for a licensed attorney at the government trough whining that he has "no choice." What to think of a man who believes or at least says he believes that Esparza is bad for the community and then who goes out and tells the community that he supports Esparza and they should to? I am so glad I will never know what it feels like to need a job so badly that I would sell my soul and my honor and be so willing to hurt my neighbor in the process all for the sake of a pay check.

In addition to the questions I pose above, questions all El Pasoans should be asking in the midst of the public corruption scandal that hangs over our community's head are: How is it that the DA has employees whose salaries are paid with your tax dollars out working polls for his campaign during working hours? Are these public employees being paid for their time at the polls with tax dollars? Is this an illegal campaign violation? Is the FBI watching this happen in our city and if so, what will the ramifications be?

I'm having a hard digesting all of these remarks. I've been reading most of the blog entries--if not all your entries. Most of them are about the corruption and flash and lights that grab attention.

I must say this is brilliant. For new voters, young voters, voters not really knowledgable about the justice system, your flash and rhetoric is exciting and to be honest a step away from becoming the Jerry Springer show.

Be be very honest, I am a Esparza supporter who wanted to open my ears to what you were saying, your ideas, etc. That's why I've been reading your blog...that and the fact that it has become as entertaining as a Reality TV Show--, okay an interesting Reality TV Show--which many unexperienced voters will relate to.

But I still end up having one question or concern about you working as DA.

If everyone, and that is the way you paint it, is against you whether it is the press, other attorneys, law enforcement, etc. how is it that you plan on building bridges to these individuals and agencies to make yourself a successful DA and to make El Paso a safe community for all of us.

How do you plan on showing teamwork and community building when you have called everyone out? And would the communty you built with your plan be an El Paso far worse than the one you have painted to voters.

It seems that you going to tear everything up (Esparza's current running of the DAO) and find a away to put it back together. That is a difficult job for anyone...but how about with someone other agencies see as a person who wants to divide and not unite.

You're arrogant and pompous. You probably don't understand anything you read on this blog because it all too human. If you're having a hard time digesting remarks, I pity you. It's pretty darn simple. We all get it and we come from every walk of life. What's wrong with you?

I don't want my DA to "build bridges." The DA's job is to prosecute criminals. The DA's job isn't to be buddy buddy with the police chief, former and present elected officials; hence the nepotism and back slapping you've got going on down there. Your comparison to the "Jerry Springer Show" of El Paso politics is correct. El Paso politics reeks of favoritism, corruption, and for those unlucky not to be in the know, a DA who needs to go after someone. Ask those who have no connections what happens to them when Jaime has gone after them. For those favorites well then there isn't enough evidence. Vote for Theresa! Good luck TC and fight the good fight!

Actually, prosecuting criminals is the majority of the DA's job. You're right. Another tier of that is assisting victims of crime who are affected by these criminals.

A vital component to do that is that the DA NEEDS to build bridges to community agencies that provide services El Pasoans who are affectd by crime. Those agencies include law enforcement, social service agencies, etc.

It is easy to say that is all I want the DA to do is prosecute criminals, however; that is not the whole of the sum.

I can't wait for TC to win so that she can start cleaning up the corruption in ths town! I want her to tear down, dismantle and deconstruct the mess and relationships createc by Jaime Esparza. I agree with Alison, a DA is not there to build bridges but to do a job, investigate and prosecute crime. And in this town the crime involves the police and high level officials.

Theresa, Sorry about the loss, we both know the better woman should have won. I was proud to have helped you in my humble way during your campaign. You have a lot of support out there and you had an excellent showing for a first time run, especially fighting the big power corruption machine. Please do not stop telling us the truth, no matter how hard it is for us to swallow, and keeping being the thorn of integrity in the side of all the local proud to serve( them and theirs) politicos in El Paso. If there is anything I can do for you in the future, all you have to do is call.

Justrite:
I've been checking every day hoping TC would offer a few thoughts on her experience. Thanks for posting. I only accounted for eight people physically coming to the poll but I was so incredibly pleased with the fight TC put up. I think she has arrived in the political world. I hope she appreciates what she has done. Forty thousand people picked her!! Forty thousand people!! My God. What a feat. The undervote total was disturbing to me. Thanks TC for the good fight. Thanks to all of you who wanted better things for the city and were out there everyday trying to get it. It almost happened.

lpasopooch, The fight for what is right must continue, regardless of how strenuous the climb may be. We now find ourselves in the position of choosing the lesser of two evils for Sheriff. Leon is way too close to Cortinas and the Mexican Drug Cartels, and Wiles lack of integrity, honesty, and his insatiable thirst for power is downright scary. Unfortunately this is what we are left with. We have a City Council and Commissioners court that is willing to take the property of homeowners in the Segundo Barrio as well as intimidate and violate the civil rights of the people on the Mexican side of Santa Theresa. Under the guise of progression, these bought and sold politicians are selling out the people for the financial benefit of their rich and powerful friends and themselves. They are unearthing bodies in Juarez,as we speak, yet this gets less news coverage than the racing news vans. As far as Jaime Esparza is concerned, perhaps we won't have to campaign for Theresa four years from now. I'm hoping that the FBI will do its job and indict him long before then. Thanks for the words of support and the hope for a better world. Remember, your eight votes were part of that 40,000, and every single vote counts. Even in defeat, my heart knows I am on the right side, and I will stand steadfastly by the people of character willing to stand up and fight, against all odds, for a better world for ALL of us, not just the chosen few.
